Late Halloween VGM: The 7th Guest
Well, shoot. Halloween came and went and I spent most of it working on school work! So please allow me to make one final Halloween-themed post as I discuss one final bit of spooky video game music, the music from The 7th Guest.
I was crazy about The 7th Guest back when it came out. The atmosphere, the story, the brain-busting puzzles had my friends and I hooked like mad back in the day. While the graphics and actors (cheesy as those actors may have been) lent a lot to the atmosphere of wandering the creepy old mansion, a lot of credit can also be given to the soundtrack performed by The Fat Man and Team Fat.
The first track is called Foyer Entrances, but it also has the short title song that plays as the mansion fades into view, complete with streaks of lightening and accompanying thunder on the soundtrack. It then moves into the foyer as the six guests all walk in as transparent ghosts.
The next track is played while wandering downstairs in the mansion, and according to the Fat Man, the music in inspired by an episode of the Twilight Zone where a slot machine followed a man around a casino. The track has some great effects in it that sound like a wailing wind every now and then, and when coupled with the dimly lit mansion filled with puzzles and ghosts, was enough to give you chills.
So that’s all my coverage of Halloween-y video game music for now! I hope everyone had a great Halloween and played lots of scary games and watched lots of scary movies!
