Retro Game Hunting!

This week I decided to hit up a local retro gaming shop that I like to frequent, Next Level games, and see if anything new and exciting had come in. I ended up with a few things I bought out of curiosity, and one cool import find that I can’t wait to try out!

So here we have, from left to right, The Faery Tale Adventures, Instruments of Chaos starring Young Indiana Jones, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Return of the Shredder, all for Genesis. Well, almost all for Genesis, the TMNT game is actually a Japanese game so it’s really the Mega Drive! As you may know, I’m a huge Ninja Turtles fan, and while I’ve played most of the TMNT games out there, I never played the one exclusive to Genesis, The Hyperstone Heist. So I am halfway there, as I’ve got a copy of the Japanese version now! After reading around online, it seems I can fit a Mega Drive game in my Genesis with a Game Genie, so now the hunt is on. I looked around at a few stores, but only came across Game Genies for the NES. So for now, I still can’t play it. But soon, hopefully!

I picked up Faery Tale because I actually own this game on a 3.5” disc for DOS! I only played it a little bit back in the day, but I’ll definitely give the 16-bit version a fair try! And I’ve never seen this version of a Young Indiana Jones game before. It’s made by Sega, so hopefully it’ll be a fun side-scrolling action game.

Finally, I got a couple of Game Boy games, too! Bionic Commando: Elite Forces is interesting because it’s a kind of sequel to the NES game for Game Boy Color, offering a half new, half rehashed plot, new levels and some new abilities. I look forward to giving this one a try. Lastly there’s the Game Boy version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Now this one I actually got off of Ebay, I didn’t go hunting around stores for this one. We all know that the NES game turned out not that great, thanks in large part to LJN, who seem to ruin any game they take part in. But look at the developer on this one: Capcom!! Traditionally Capcom + Disney games = awesome, so I’m hoping that this will be a memorable Roger Rabbit game!

And that’s some of my latest finds! Anyone else grab any good games lately?
